Planning Aides
Below are Customaries presented by the Diocese of Atlanta Vergers Chapter and blessed by Bishop Whitmore.
Currently, the Diocese of Atlanta Vergers Chapter is referring to the Customaries without Bishop blessings as Planning Aids. Please note that the Planning Guides are from the Book of Common Prayer with additions from our Diocese of Atlanta Vergers.
Bishop Cover Letter
Bishop Diocesan's Customary for Pastoral Visitations
The Bishop’s pastoral visitation to a Parish or worshiping community becomes a special occasion in the life of the Parish.
Starting a Verger Ministry Customary
Bishop’s Visit Customary
This Customary has been developed as a guide for all Parishes and can be used as an aid to assist Parishes that are contemplating starting a Verger ministry or are in the early stages of a Verger ministry. The Customary is intended to be used for Holy Eucharist (the principal Sunday service). This Customary may easily be adapted for local customs and other services.
This Customary offers suggestions for a Verger when a Bishop visits his/her Parish.
Verging Maundy Thursday
What does Maundy Thursday mean to you? Are you escorting the procession? Are you helping to wash feet? Will you have your feet washed by your spouse or companion? How do you feel about our celebration of the Last Supper before His crucifixion? Guest author Robin Dake comments on her emotions while verging at Maundy Thursday services, past, present and future.

Funeral Planning Aid
On January 11, 2020, the Diocese of Atlanta Verger Chapter held its first renewed training section. As a group of many parishes, we shared, learned, and expressed the ways of funeral planning in general across the Diocese. Below you will see the PowerPoint presentation and the funeral planning aid itself. Please print and use as needed. Let us know if you have any additional suggestions.
